From cow to buffalo and A2, there are many varieties of ghee available in the market today. But have you ever read or heard about gold-infused ghee? Yes, what you are imagining it to be is also (probably) right. This particular ghee, made with 24-carat gold, is said to be highly beneficial for the body, according to Ayurveda practitioner Dr Dixa Bhavsar Savaliya.

“This ghee is made with the milk of Gir-cow through the bilona method; we call it Shyama (one belonging to Shyam i.e, Krishna). No one can love cows more than Lord Krishna, hence the name of this gold-infused ghee. According to Ayurveda, ghee is considered ‘Yogavahi’, which means it assumes the characteristics of the medicine/herb it accompanies and ensures it penetrates all tissues. Here, ghee is prepared with gold which makes it more penetrative and efficient,” said Dr Bhavsar.

Sharing the process, the Ayurvedic practitioner said a 24-carat gold coin is dropped into the ghee while it is being made.

She also listed the following benefits.

*Improves immunity
*Prevents cancer and helps in its quick healing
*Enhances memory and complexion
*Boosts mood and energy levels
*Helps in hormonal balance
*Imparts sound sleep
*Improves skin and hair
*Prevents/manages nutritional deficiency
*Improves strength and libido
*Enhances fertility (for both- male and female)
*Prevents autoimmune diseases
*Reduces inflammation
*Helps in healing tuberculosis
*Improves mental health

It can be mixed in food and consumed by all ages, according to Dr Bhavsar, who advised a dosage of 10-30 ml/day. “I suggest this to all couples trying to conceive, pregnant women, and women with hormonal imbalance. It is also for my patients with stress, poor mental health, and gut issues,” said Dr Bhavsar.

Intrigued by the revelation, we decided to ask other experts whether this ghee delivers what it promises.

While Dr Manjusha Agarwal, senior consultant, internal medicine, Gleneagles Hospitals Parel Mumbai said that medical doctors cannot comment on this practice as it is not scientifically proven, Dr Dimple Jangda, celebrity Ayurveda coach, said gold-infused ghee is also known as ‘Swarna Bhasma ‘and is hailed as the golden liquid in Ayurveda, with multiple health benefits.

“It helps the body heal and boost immunity against acute diseases. This ancient Ayurvedic recipe is an exotic concoction of purified gold and clarified butter. The gold has to be carefully processed into a fine ash, called Bhasma, using traditional techniques. This improves the bioavailability and potency of gold,” said Dr Jangda.

In Ayurveda, gold is considered a potent ingredient for its rejuvenating properties. It has Rasayana qualities, which are rejuvenating in nature, mentioned Dr Jangda.

According to Dr Jangda, gold-infused ghee acts as an aphrodisiac when consumed with ashwagandha, which improves potency and sexual health. “When combined with milk, Swarna Bhasma helps improve strength and immunity. It is also an excellent ingredient for eye health, brain health, and memory power,” said Dr Jangda.

However, Dr Jangda said gold-infused ghee needs to be pure, and suggested tips to identify it. “The bhasma used must be extremely fine, should settle between your finger lines, and must be barely visible. It must have no shine to it, as the bhasma when prepared ideally loses shine. It should also be irreversible, which means the bhasma cannot be converted back into the metal itself. Also, the bhasma must be light and should float on water,” shared Dr Jangda.
