Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently shared that he starts working the moment he wakes up. In fact, Huang, who is the 13th richest person in the world, follows this routine all seven days of the week. “I work from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed, and I work seven days a week. When I’m not working, I’m thinking about working. And when I’m working, I’m working,” Huang told Stripe CEO Patrick Collison in a chat.

“I used to wake up at 5 (am), but these days, I wake up at 6 (am) because of my dogs… I don’t mind waking anybody up, but I feel guilty when I wake the puppies up,” he shared.

On dedicating his life to his work, the CEO said, “When you want to build something great, it’s not easy to do and when you are doing something that’s not easy to do, you’re not always enjoying it. I don’t love every day of my job, not every day brings me joy; nor does joy have to be the definition of a good day… but I love the company every single second.”

Let’s understand how working non-stop, right after waking up, could affect your health.

Dr Manjusha Agarwal, senior consultant, internal medicine, Gleneagles Hospitals Parel Mumbai said that jumping straight into work without proper stretching or warming up can increase your chances of getting muscle strain or serious injury. “It can also impact your mental health, as going straight to work just after getting up can lead to exhaustion, burnout, and feeling overwhelmed. Allowing yourself and your body a few minutes for relaxation and stretching after waking up is essential. This can enhance your overall mood and boost energy levels and focus,” said Dr Agarwal.

For mindfulness and reducing stress individuals, one can try doing activities like yoga, meditation, and deep breathing exercises in the morning.

Dr Agarwal also shared that insufficient sleep can adversely impact your overall health. “Sleep is essential to an individual’s lifestyle as it allows your body to relax, conserve and store energy, recover from injuries, and maintain healthy brain function,” said Dr Agarwal.

Sleep deprivation can lead to potential health problems like cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, obesity, and depression, added Dr Agarwal.
