Can drinking two glasses of water after waking up, and before workouts help you lose weight?

That hydration is crucial for overall well-being is extremely well-known. But turns out that there are certain sets of rules for drinking water ‘correctly’. That is because just like food, even water needs to be regulated to optimise its impact on the body, according to dietitian Simran Vohra. Elaborating the same in a social media post, she revealed how drinking water at a certain time (and quantity) can aid weight loss.

*After waking up, two glasses of warm water

*1 hour before workout, two glasses of water

*30 minutes after workout, two glasses of water

*30 minutes before meal, two glasses of water

*After snacks, two glasses of lemon water

Taking a cue, we asked Jinal Patel, dietitian, Zynova Shalby Hospital on whether this pattern helps get rid of those extra kilos.

Drinking warm water daily can help boost the body’s metabolism levels. “Warm water instantly resolves all issues related to digestion like constipation, gas, indigestion, and diarrhea making it easier for the body to absorb essential nutrients. Warm water can also improve blood circulation and potentially reduce pain. It aids in improving metabolism which potentially helps in burning enough calories for weight loss,” said Patel.

However, it is impossible to lose weight just by drinking water. “No doubt it will keep you hydrated throughout the day, but various factors lead to weight loss,” stressed Patel.

Understanding the root cause of weight gain can help you come up with a tailored plan for effective results.

According to Patel, factors like stress, eating processed, packaged, and junk food, stressful lifestyle, genetics, restricted mobility, and certain medications can impact your weight loss. “A hectic lifestyle with longer working hours makes it nearly impossible to maintain mobility resulting in weight gain. Make sure to take frequent breaks throughout the day. Choosing unhealthy, processed, and packaged food over nutritional foods can slow down your metabolism,” noted Patel.

Make sure to eat a well-rounded meal that consists of essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, healthy fats, and lean protein.

If you are unable to lose weight even after continuous efforts and necessary adjustments, then consulting a dietician can be helpful. “Your dietician will examine your current situation and try to find the exact cause triggering weight gain. After identifying that, they might create a tailored diet plan while considering factors like health conditions, allergies, and food preferences to ensure maximum protein intake,” said Patel.
