The Ambanis have been all over the Internet owing to the larger-than-life wedding of their youngest son Anant. Like all Indian mothers, Nita Ambani also applied mehendi on her hands during her son’s wedding festivities. But what makes the mehendi of this philanthropist stand out?

Avid devotees of Lord Krishna and Radha, the Ambani clan are known to be religious and god-fearing. Thus, it came as no surprise when Nita opted for Radha-Krishna motifs on the back of her hands to seek blessings.

While most women write their partner’s names between the intricate details of the design, Nita went for a subtle twist. Not only did she write Mukesh’s name, but she also mentioned her children’s names on both palms.

Not just Anant, Akash and Isha, Nita went a step ahead and included both her and daughters-in-laws Shloka and Radhika, as well as son-in-law Anand Piramal’s names as well in the mix.

In conversation with Satendra, a mehendi artist from Noida, indianexpress.com found out that the act of applying henna or mehendi is steeped in the belief of “shagun” or good luck.

According to tradition, people believe that applying mehendi before a wedding can be auspicious and bring about positivity and good luck in one’s life.

Satendra also explained how writing the names of your loved ones in between your henna designs can lead to a peaceful co-existence and foster love and harmony. “While there are no particular motifs associated with bridal mehendi, you can get any design that your heart desires,” he added.

For Anant and Radhika Merchant’s mehendi ceremony, Nita donned a custom Ranghaat ghagra by Indian designer duo Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla that was embellished with Swarovski crystals. She looked like the epitome of elegance in the peach silk ghagra with bronze, silver, and pista green hues.

Following the mehendi ceremony, Nita was seen carrying a Raman Divo lamp as per Gujarati culture, wherein the groom’s mother carries this traditional lamp to bless the happy couple and cast away darkness from their lives.
