Alia Bhatt dons 160-year-old silk sari; others embrace pure gold, silver in their traditional ensemble

Celebrities had a blast at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding. From decking up in designer wear to embracing rich Indian embroidery and artisanry, notable celebs left no stone unturned when it came to flaunting their fashion game. While we are used to seeing gold, silver and diamonds as part of jewellery, what’s interesting, is the use of pure gold and silver when it comes to weaving couture ensembles.

The Gangubai Kathiawadi actor looked stunning in a custom Manish Malhotra archival sari. Taking to Instagram, her stylist Priyanka kapadia expressed her gratitude to the designer for “allowing us into your archives and reimagining this beautiful 160-year-old Ashavali weave pure silk and real zari saree.”

Diet Sabya on Instagram shared that the sari with the zari border had “99% pure silver” and used approximately “6 grams of real gold”.

From the house of Sunita Shekhawat, she wore their signature Padmapriya necklace, earrings, tika and bangles.

“The collection is a beautiful celebration of the lotus flower being the central motif crafted using Champleve enamelling technique and painted Gulabi meenakari. The necklace set is handcrafted using 22 karat gold, radiant uncut diamonds, finest quality emeralds and south sea pearls,” the jeweller shared on Instagram.

Bhatt kept it simple and elegant with a pulled back bun adorned with flowers, dewy makeup and nude lips for a subtle glam.

The Mr and Mrs Mahi actor looked resplendent in a golden custom Falguni Shane Peacock lehenga, but the highlight of her ensemble was the bralette made from real gold temple jewellery. Styled by Ami Patel, Kapoor opted for a simple braid to keep it clean and fresh, a heavy neckpiece and matching earrings and a small tika to complete her look.

Karan Johar got ‘baarat ready’ in a custom gold and silver vasli sherwani by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla for Anant and Radhika’s wedding ceremony. The Bollywood filmmaker accessorised his look with Gucci eyewear and golden shoes from Copper Mallet. Neatly pasted hair and a huge emerald ring completed his chic look.
