Kartik Aaryan is extremely pleased that he ended up adopting an entirely “different lifestyle” while prepping for Chandu Champion.

The actor who has been consciously checking his calorie count these days, said that this new lifestyle makes him feel good. “I have taken the entire lifestyle with me. The lifestyle is disciplined, sleeping on time, eating on time, eating the right food, going to the gym, and working out. I think these were the things I was evading in my life. I should have been doing that before also. I have always been a foodie. It was a difficult task to leave food. It was like leaving everything I was eating. Everything that I was eating (now) was new to me. It was something that never tasted good. I have gotten used to it now. It makes me feel good, not in a tasteful manner but in a very meditative manner,” Kartik told Film Companion.

This has resulted in drastic changes in his sleep schedule. “There is a shift that I am noticing. This kind of discipline was not there before. I was mostly an insomniac. I didn’t mind not sleeping. Suddenly, sleep has become a big part of my life. It is like machine ko sona hai. And physiotherapy. Working out properly. I followed it for 1.5 years-2 years. It was a work of patience. It takes a lot of effort,” said Kartik, 33.

He also shared that he picked up key life skills during the film’s shoot helmed by filmmaker Kabir Khan. “On the one hand, I was not eating food, doing my workouts and on the other hand, I was learning skills like boxing and swimming. I was scared of deep-water swimming. I had to shoot in a 15 m deep Olympic stadium with professional swimmers with whom I had to match my speed. From a non-swimmer to a swimmer and a non-boxer to a boxer…I was in a ring with a guy who was coming from a world championship bout,” recalled Kartik, adding that Kabir Khan pays a lot of attention to detail.

“The surroundings have to be real. That’s what he did with me. It took a toll on me. Plus, my workshops were going on where I had to deconstruct myself. So, I was living a different life altogether with blinkers on. I was completely anti-social and I have started liking it,” expressed Kartik.

How do lifestyle modifications help?

Lifestyle modifications like eating healthy food, managing stress, and indulging in physical activity for more than 30 minutes are advised, said Dr Harish Chafle, senior consultant, intensivist chest physician, bronchoscopist and sleep disorders specialist, Gleneagles Hospital Parel Mumbai. “Individuals are advised to eat a balanced diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, minerals, and essential nutrients,” said Dr Chafle.

Tracking your macronutrient intake allows for precise control over your diet. “By knowing exactly how much fat, protein, and carbs you’re consuming, you can tailor your intake to match your specific fitness objectives, whether it’s weight loss, muscle gain, or maintenance,” said Shruti K Bhardwaj, chief dietician at Zydus Hospital, Ahmedabad.

According to Bhardwaj, a macronutrient balance can enhance athletic performance. “Tracking macronutrients increases awareness of food choices and portion sizes. It encourages mindful eating. This awareness can lead to long-term dietary adherence,” said Bhardwaj.
