Ranveer Singh proves heels for men are here to stay

The first name that comes to mind when asked which male actor is always open to experimenting with his looks is, without a doubt, Ranveer Singh. Even though we expect him to raise the bar with each look of his, he still manages to surprise (and impress) us whenever he steps out for public engagements. And he did it once again.

For the opening of a jewellery boutique in Mumbai, the Gully Boy star rocked an all-white ensemble by designer Gaurav Gupta — a satin shirt, matching pants, and a waist-cinching belt. But the USP of his look was the Copper Mallet heeled boots he wore. Keeping it uber stylish, the father-to-be completed his look with a chunky diamond necklace worth Rs 2 crore and a pair of sunglasses.

Ranveer Singh has never been one to shy away from bold and eclectic fashion choices. From angarakhas to ghagras, maximalist prints and over-the-top blazers, he’s done it all — even being trolled for wearing heels.

Popular to contrary belief, high heels weren’t always a women’s accessory! The history of heels can be traced back as early as the turn of the 17th century in Western Europe and centuries prior in Western Asia.

During the ‘Age of Enlightenment’ in the 17th century, fashion was categorised as feminine and frivolous, thereby leading to the omission of the ‘high heel’ from menswear, deemed culturally appropriate.

Commenting on his look, celebrity stylist Isha Bhansali said: “Gaurav Gupta does whites like no one else. White is such an underrated and versatile colour for men.”  She added that satin is currently a trendy fabric for menswear, it’s “so sexy and not restricted to just the feminine,” she told indianexpress.com.

Talking about his choice of footwear, Bhansali said: “Ranveer is wearing Cuban heels, which is a very classic style for Chelsea boots. There was an entire wave of chunky sneakers that was doing the rounds, ever since streetwear has become such a big thing. The Cuban heels is a very obvious style, but that doesn’t mean men don’t wear heels that are visible or predominant in their footwear. Chunky sneakers is a big example of shoes with a bit of height in them.”

This isn’t the first time the actor has been spotted in heels. Earlier, he was seen breaking a leg in platform heels and an all-black sherwani at a friend’s wedding.
