Amid the escalating tensions in the Middle East over the latest detonation of Hezbollah members’ pagers, an adviser of Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu presented a new proposed ceasefire and hostage deal with Hamas to the President Joe Biden administration.

As US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Egyptian officials on Wednesday in hope to advance the efforts to secure a ceasefire deal, Israel has communicated a new proposal which could have wider ramifications considering the Lebanon based Hezbollah and Iranian threats.

The proposal from Gal Hirsh, who is a close ally of PM Netanyahu, details that there would be a permanent end to conflict in Gaza, the release of all the hostages held by Hamas militant group in Gaza in one stage and in response, the release of all Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

Israel has proposed a safe passage for Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar out of Palestine in exile. A key point which has been a bone of contention in the ongoing ceasefire deal is the presence of Israeli military after the ceasefire and hostage deal is fructified. The newly proposed deal is silent on this issue, according to a CNN report.

The Hamas group has yet not shared its views on the new proposal presented by the Israeli administration but reactions say that it is going to be a non-starter for the militant organization.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday said he does not want to see any escalatory actions by any party that make a Gaza ceasefire deal even more difficult, adding that he believed a ceasefire remains possible and necessary, according to Reuters.

The meeting between Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi and Secretary Blinken revolved around the passage of the ceasefire deal as both of them called for all parties to act responsibly.

The Egyptian presidency said in a statement, Abdel and Blinken “exchanged views on ways to intensify joint efforts between Egypt, the US and Qatar to make progress on ceasefire negotiations and the exchange of hostages and detainees.”
