Sunrisers Hyderabad shattered the record for the highest score in the Indian Premier League when they smashed the Mumbai Indians for 277/5 on Wednesday.

The Sunrisers broke the record of Royal Challengers Bengaluru who had scored 263/5 against Pune Warriors India way back in 2013.

After being sent to bat first by Mumbai skipper Hardik Pandya, Australia’s World Cup hero Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma went hell for leather scoring 62 and 63 runs respectively.

After both of them had departed, Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen took over and the bludgeoning of the Mumbai bowlers continued.

In the match in 2013, When Chris Gayle went crazy that day against Pune Warriors in Bengaluru, it was nearly a 1-man show. There were cameos elsewhere but Gayle was the man who did the heavylifting. The Universe Boss smashed 175* while the second highest score was 33.

SRH, however, took the modern route to the record. It was a proper team effort as first Head, then Sharma and finally Markram and Klaasen all smashed the leather out of the ball. The lowest strike rate among those four was Markram’s 150.00.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their IPL match.

SRH made a couple of changes, bringing in Travis Head for Marco Jansen, while Jaydev Unadkat replacing T Natarajan, who has a niggle.

MI made one change, handing Kwena Maphaka his IPL debut at the expense of Luke Wood Both teams are coming into the match after losing their respective openers.
