Sometimes, the gap between breakfast and lunch seems far too long and it may become a nuisance. Bridging this long gap and introducing a light meal during this time could be very healthy.

Originating from the UK, elevenses is described as a mid-morning snack or meal. This meal can range from a simple coffee break to a light snack. Let’s learn why everyone should include an elevenses meal in their everyday routine!

According to Vedika Premani, Clinical Dietician at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai, it is usually advised to eat breakfast within 1-2 hours of waking up to boost your energy levels for the rest of the day. Afterwards, having a huge gap before lunch can cause a drop in blood sugar that can lead to fatigue, irritability, and reduced focus.

Having a mid-morning meal around 11 AM can help stabilise blood sugar, prevent an energy dip, and keep you feeling energised until lunch.

What is the difference between brunch and elevenses?

A brunch typically consists of a very heavy meal akin to lunch and most people would avoid having lunch afterwards. Elevenses, on the other hand is a light meal which helps you to balance your energy levels, prevent digestive issues and boost your productivity.

Premani added that consuming small snacks after a healthy breakfast can do wonders for your health. “Consuming a light meal around 11 A.M does not only improve satiety but also aid in weight management and blood glucose control,” she said.
