It was the perfect opening to the fashion extravaganza that kickstarted July 23 as Wamiqa Gabbi strutted down the ramp looking ethereal in an ivory trail lehenga set from Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla’s ‘Botanical Bloom’ line.

Her exquisite outfit featured resham embroidery with ivory silk threads highlighted with pearls and crystals. But what stole the show was her webbed pearl headgear — that elevated the look manifold. Her neatly styled hair, and bold eye makeup completed the look perfectly, ensuring the outfit remained the highlight.

The designer duo, who showcased in the capital for the first time at Hyundai FDCI India Couture Week, presented ‘ASAL’ and ‘MARD’ amidst a haveli-inspired backdrop with models sashaying down the catwalk on ‘disco mujra’ music.

Changing into an entirely different look — that of a regal bride — the Fursat actor also closed the show wearing a red lehenga from the ‘Bridal Gota’ collection, handcrafted with gota, zardozi, and encrusted with crystals.

Accompanying her was Taha Shah Badussha in brocade pants teamed with a dramatic textile drape adorned in zardozi embroidery. In keeping with the theme of the look, his outfit was accessorised with a matching zardozi belt. The Heeramandi actor also wore another look: “an olive silk tissue long kurta sparkling with crystal encrusted flying birds. It was paired with brocade flared pants that were relaxed, yet regal,” a note from the designers read.

Talking about the collection, the duo added: “The collection married a new perspective with the beauty of everything old – that is, textiles, embroideries, clothes, and the haveli as backdrop. The collection delved deep into our rich archives to curate a series of ranges that paid homage to the impeccable craftsmanship and time-honored heritage of original designs by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla.”
