Dhanashree Verma on embracing cricketing world after marrying Yuzvendra Chahal: ‘My life has taken a 180-degree turn’

Post At: May 27/2024 08:10PM

Dhanashree Verma grew up in a household of cricket fans and shares their love for the sport. She admits that her life transformed completely after marrying Indian leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Despite the changes, she carved an identity and is loved for her dancing skills. But before becoming a dancer and choreographer, she was a dentist, a journey she discussed with us in an exclusive interview.

That’s not all, Verma also opened up about her daily routine, her supportive partner, their strong bond, her workouts, and if she’s ever had a fangirl moment. Read the edited excerpts below:

Q: From dentist to dancer, tell us about your journey and the massive career shift

Dhanashree Verma: It was my ardent wish to become a doctor, but dance was always a hobby. Eventually, I realized my deep love for dance. With 12 years of experience at Shiamak Davar’s Company, I felt confident I could succeed in this career too. One day, while treating patients at the clinic, I felt something was missing from my life—the energy of dance. That’s when I decided to balance both. Thankfully, things picked up, and God has been kind.

Q: You recently participated in a dance reality show. How was the experience? Did you feel you had an edge over others?

Dhanashree Verma: I participated with an injured knee, and that always weighed on my mind. But I have always been very strong mentally, and it helped me get through the show. However, I don’t feel I had an upper hand compared to the other contestants. When you are physically fit, you can experiment more, but an injury places you on the same level as everyone else, regardless of your dance expertise; there are restrictions.

Q: You are married to Yuzvendra Chahal. Have you always followed and enjoyed cricket? Or was it post marriage?

Dhanashree Verma: Yes, I follow cricket and love the sport. I grew up in a household where my father and brother watched cricket all the time, so my interest developed long before I got married.

Q: How has your life changed, if at all, after you entered the world of cricket through your spouse?

Dhanashree Verma: My life has taken a complete 180-degree turn because now I am always exposed to crowds where people worship cricket and cricketers. Sometimes, they forget the sentiments of the family, which has been a challenge for me. But other than that, it’s just a normal life where the husband goes to work, and you have to be supportive of that. Similarly, I feel Yuzi has been very supportive of my career. No one is experienced in this; everything is a first. As long as there is understanding and mutual support, that’s all that matters.

Q: Who is your favorite cricketer, other than Yuzvendra? Have you ever had a fangirl moment?

Dhanashree Verma: Of course, it has to be my husband. I have also always been a fan of Rohit (Sharma) bhaiya and Virat (Kohli) bhaiya.

Q: Both your careers demand fitness. Do you often work out together? Who drives whom to reach their goals?

Dhanashree Verma: I am very fit. I love working out, it is a part of my lifestyle. Yuzi works out too, but I am more driven towards it, and I am the one who drags everyone, not just Yuzi, but my entire family to the gym.

Q: But we are sure there are cheat meals/days too. What do you indulge in on those occasions?

Dhanashree Verma: I am a foodie. I love to eat, and strongly believe in indulging in what you crave, but balancing it with regular workouts. As for cuisines, I love Chinese, Asian, Japanese, and street food. Burgers have always been my go-to comfort food; that is why I am so excited about KFC’s five new variety of burgers.

Q: Yuzvendra seems fun-loving and adventurous. How would you describe him as a partner?

Dhanashree Verma: Yuzi is very enthusiastic about adventure and sports, indoor or outdoor activities alike. What truly solidifies our bond is my active involvement in sports. As a former basketball captain, I’ve enjoyed being on the field or court. Yuzi appreciates this aspect of my personality since it means I can readily join him in various activities when we’re out with friends. I am always up for a challenge, whether it’s a game of PlayStation or any sport under the sun. This shared passion for sports not only adds excitement to our lives but also reinforces our compatibility.
