US Vice President Kamala Harris has accepted CNN’s invitation to participate in a debate on 23 October, just under two weeks before the 5 November presidential election. However, Former President Donald Trump rejected Harris call for second debate, saying ‘it’s too late.’

“Vice President Harris is eager for another chance to share the stage with Donald Trump and has accepted CNN’s invitation for a debate on 23 October. Donald Trump should have no issues agreeing to this debate,” campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon stated on Saturday.

“I will gladly accept a second presidential debate on October 23,” Harris also wrote on X. “I hope Donald Trump will join me.”

Shortly after, Trump while addressing a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, claimed that Harris is seeking a rematch because she’s losing.

“She’s done one debate, I’ve done two. It’s too late to do another, I’d love to in many ways but it’s too late, the voting is cast, the voters are out there, immediately – is everybody voting, please? Get out and vote,” Trump said.

Harris and Trump first faced off in a debate on 10 September, with polls indicating the Democratic nominee came out ahead. However, Trump announced last week that he would not participate in another debate against Harris before the election, declaring on his Truth Social platform, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”

Earlier in June, Trump debated President Joe Biden, whose performance raised concerns among Democrats, leading to speculation about whether the party should replace the 81-year-old president. Biden eventually withdrew from the presidential race in July.
