Osama bin Laden son Hamza ‘still alive, planning attacks on Western targets’: Report

Hamza bin Laden, son of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, is reportedly alive and leading the terror organisation, as per intelligence reports, The Mirror reported.

The report exclusively obtained by The Mirror has revealed that Hamza is not only alive but also playing an active role in al-Qaeda’s resurgence. The report also noted that this fact is “well-known among senior Taliban leaders,” who regularly meet with him and ensure the security of both him and his family. This contradicts the US government’s assertion that Hamza was killed in a 2019 operation.

It further emphasised the strong relationship between Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, which the report stated is “crucial for Western governments to understand.” According to the document, Hamza has risen to the leadership of al-Qaeda, guiding the group “towards its most potent resurgence since the Iraq War.”

“Under his command, al-Qaeda is regrouping and preparing for future attacks on Western targets,” the report further said. Hamza is said to be driven by a strong determination to carry on his father’s legacy, adding both symbolic and strategic significance to his leadership. The report also noted that Hamza’s brother, Abdullah bin Laden, is playing a key role in the revival.

A separate report has highlighted that camps have been set up, training fighters and suicide bombers, instructing them on how to leave Afghanistan undetected to pose threats against Western targets. It is believed that up to 21 terror networks are currently operating in Afghanistan, making the country the world’s most significant terror hot spot. The latest intelligence report has stated that al-Qaeda is collaborating with the Islamic State, raising concerns about the potential for another 9/11-style attack on the West.

Hamza has been designated a global terrorist by the US and was previously considered a rising figure within Al Qaeda. He released propaganda videos calling for attacks on the West and was believed to be working closely with Ayman al-Zawahiri, who succeeded Osama as Al-Qaeda’s leader.

Another recent report by the National Mobilisation Front (NMF), an anti-Taliban military alliance, has alleged that Hamza is hiding in northern Afghanistan under the protection of 450 snipers and is planning future attacks on Western targets.

These reports come amid growing concerns about the resurgence of terrorism in Afghanistan, following the Taliban’s takeover in 2021. The group has accused the Taliban of providing safe haven to various terrorist organizations, including Al-Qaeda.

However, the US government has not yet confirmed or denied NMF’s claims, leaving the question of Hamza bin Laden’s status unresolved.
