Tajikistan’s chief mufti injured in attack in Dushanbe mosque

Tajikistan’s top Muslim cleric Sayeedmukarram Abduqodirzoda got injured in a stabbing attack outside a mosque in the capital city on Wednesday.

Abduqodirzoda, the chairman of the country’s Islamic Council of Ulema, was attacked following a prayer service in Dushanbe, the interior ministry said as reported by Reuters.

The attacker was detained, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Abduqodirzoda, 61, a respected religious leader in the predominantly Sunni Muslim country, sustained minor injuries and was released from the hospital.
