A video, capturing the dramatic rescue of a distressed woman from a high-rise rooftop in New York City, has gained widespread attention on social media. Recorded by bodycams worn by New York policemen, the footage shows officers climbing over a glass wall to reach the woman, who was on the edge of a 54-storey building in Manhattan.

The 33-year-old woman was rescued on Wednesday last week at East 29th Street, with the clip later shared on X by NYPD News.

When the public needs help, they call the police. When the police need help, they call ESU. @NYPDSpecialops ESU detectives recently saved a distraught woman on a rooftop 54-stories up using their rope rescue skills.

The police responded to a call received around 3.30 pm (local time) reporting a woman in distress on the building’s ledge. On arrival, the members of the NYPD’s emergency service unit (ESU) found the woman on the other side of a glass barrier. In order to reach the victim, they used a rope and once secured, assisted her in getting over the divider. She was then taken to Bellevue Hospital.

In the video, two officers were seen holding onto the woman’s left arm through a slit opening, while another officer, tethered to the rope, jumped over the glass wall to join them. The police reassured the woman throughout the rescue, with one officer heard saying, “You’re okay.”

NYPD highlighted the teamwork of the emergency service unit (ESU) in the post on X, stating, “When the public needs help, they call the police. When the police need help, they call ESU.”
