Pro-Palestinian protesters were prevented from disrupting the 2024 Met Gala event

Over Dozen of protesters supporting Palestine caused trouble for the Met Gala, a grand fashion event, on Monday. Metal fences were used by security forces to stop the protesters from disrupting the event.

Some protester’s were Chanting “Rafah! Gaza!” and wanted to disrupt the event, while others said they had no knowledge about it. The Police were present in almost equal numbers, guiding the protest through New York’s Upper East side and kept their fashion fans away from seeing their favorite celebrities.

Another group , including residents of the Wealthy area, dog walkers, and doormen, expressed surprise but not shock at the clash of passion.

One doorman in uptown Manhattan, Said “in past five years things have gotten crazy,”  talking about the area outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art where the Costume institute fundraiser takes place. ” Now they’re closing streets, and people are dressing up to watch,” as reported by The Guardian

Four spectators outside the Mark Hotel, known for celebrities getting ready for their red-carpet entrance, mentioned they were excited to see anyone famous and fashionable. However, their top picks were Zendaya, Beyonce and Blake Lively.

On Monday, union workers at Conde Nast, which owns Vogue Magazine, announced a tentative agreement for better pay and conditions , leading them to cancel a planned protest at Met Gala. Despite this, some union members showed up to support the Modal Alliance, advocating for better contracts for models fashion workers.

In recent years, The Met Gala has become known for controversy. Apart from the union dispute involving Vogue magazine, this year’s primary corporate sponsor is TikTok, a platform currently facing a potential ban by the Biden administration .

In 2022, during Kim Kardashian and her ex-boyfriend Pete Davidson red carpet appearance , news broke that Supreme Court would turn the federal right to abortion.

Lieba Nesis, a society writer with prior experience on the red carpet, asserted that the likelihood of protesters approaching the gala was nonexistent . She emphasized  a harsh reality.

“The protesters lack the massive social media following and assistants dedicated to preparing for this event for months,” she said.

” The city benefits greatly from the gala’s publicity, with hotels fully booked, putting New York in the spotlight. Its like the Academy Awards, but on a larger scale.”
