Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered where a fundraiser was being held for Vice President Kamala Harris, at one point calling attention to the administration's low approval rating.

Demonstrators demanding that President Joe Biden call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza have staged protests around the country in recent days, including blocking a bridge in San Francisco as Biden and other world leaders gathered in the city for a summit.

More than 12,700 Palestinians have been killed in the besieged territory since the war between Israel and Hamas began, after Hamas' October 7 rampage into southern Israel, The Associated Press reported, citing Palestinian health authorities. Some 1,200 people have been killed in Israel, most of them in the October 7 attack, and around 240 people were taken captive into Gaza by militants, the AP reported.

On Monday, video filmed by journalist Sergio Olmos showed a group of protesters chanting "free Palestine," "people know you're lying" and "shame on you" outside a home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, where a private fundraiser was being held for Harris. They also threw fake blood in front of the home.

One clip that Olmos posted on X, formerly Twitter, shows a protester using a loudspeaker to yell: "Your disapproval rating is at 70 percent with young people."

The comment appears to reference a recent NBC News poll that found Biden's approval rating has declined to 40 percent, the lowest level of his presidency.

Biden won the vote of almost 60 percent of people aged 18 to 29 in 2020. But the NBC News poll, which surveyed 1,000 registered voters between November 10 and 14, found young voters are souring on the president, with 70 percent of Democrats aged between 18 and 34 saying they disprove of his handling of the war.

The survey also found Biden trailing former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical matchup, although the deficit is within the poll's margin of error. Trump is leading the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

Inside the fundraiser, Harris was interrupted by someone who called for a ceasefire in the war, Deadline reported, citing a pool report.

"We live in a democracy," Harris said, after a pause. "This is a very difficult time and it's important that we all agree that people should have the freedom to have their voices heard."

Harris has also addressed the recent polling, telling CNN on Sunday that "we're going to have to earn our re-elect, there's no doubt about it." Newsweek has contacted the vice president's office for comment via email.
