Actress Susan Sarandon has been dropped from her talent agency after her comments at a recent pro-Palestinian rally in New York City.

Hamas launched a surprise attack on October 7, which was the deadliest Palestinian militant attack on Israel in history. Israel subsequently launched its heaviest-ever airstrikes on Gaza. According to Israeli officials, 1,200 people in Israel have been killed as of Tuesday, the Associated Press reported, while over 11,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to officials from the health ministry in Gaza, the AP said. Since then, many people have taken to protesting the U.S.'s response to the attacks, provoking strong reactions from each side.

On Tuesday, the former Oscar-winner was dropped by United Talent Agency (UTA), a UTA spokesperson confirmed to Newsweek.

In New York City, thousands of people took to the streets on Friday as pro-Palestinian demonstrators held banners and signs demanding a cease-fire in the bombardment of Gaza, Sarandon who has been present at several pro-Palestinian rallies, is quoted by Deadline saying, "There are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country."

The 77-year-old has also taken to social media to express her views on the conflict by sharing and reposting posts on X, formerly Twitter, as she went on to repost on Monday a pro-Palestinian post from Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, who has been criticized over the years for his antisemitic remarks.

The actress has faced previous cancelation calls as she reposted a photo of herself on stage in early November at the #March4Palestine protest in Washington, D.C.

"You don't have to be Palestinian to care about what's happening in Gaza," she wrote alongside the snap with members of the Palestinian Feminist Collective. "I stand with Palestine. No one is free until everyone is free."

Despite her decades of activism spanning LGBTQ rights, feminism, civil rights, and fighting to end the death penalty, her post and attendance at the march divided followers.

Sarandon has been a client of UTA since 2014. Before that, she had been with ICM Partners for 25 years.

This comes after former Creative Artists Agency (CAA) agent Maha Dakhil resigned from the company board as co-head of the motion pictures department in October after making comments about Israel on social media.

Dakhil shared a post on her Instagram stories saying, "You're currently learning who supports genocide" with the caption, "That's the line for me." She later added, "What's more heartbreaking than witnessing genocide? Witnessing the denial that genocide is happening."

Dakhil later apologized, saying she "made a mistake" with the repost that "used hurtful language."

This follows a growing list of celebrities who have faced backlash for either showing their support behind Palestinians or Israelis. Those choosing not to weigh in are being condemned for their silence as well as those taking a neutral stance who have been criticized for not taking sides.
