The Russian military has lost 12 tanks, 51 artillery systems and 71 vehicles in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The figures, posted to the ministry's official page on X (formerly Twitter), also claim that 27 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), two cruise missiles and 20 pieces of special equipment were destroyed over the same time period.

Newsweek contacted the Russian and Ukrainian defense ministries for comment.

The post said the data came from reports of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Russia doesn't publish its military losses, and military analysts are skeptical of reports released by both Ukraine and Russia.

Alongside the latest figures was a quote from ancient Greek philosopher and polymath Aristotle, which read: "You will never do anything in this world without courage. It is the greatest quality of the mind next to honor."

This latest Ukrainian report brings Russia's tank, artillery system and vehicle losses to 8,031, 14,246, and 34,717, respectively.

The reporting of recent Russian losses in the ongoing conflict comes as former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev warned on Sunday that the U.S. will burn in an "earthly fire" in the wake of a Ukrainian missile attack on Sevastopol, in the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow says was carried out with U.S.-supplied weapons. According to Reuters, at least five people died and more than 100 were injured in the strike.

"Responsibility for the deliberate missile attack on the civilians of Sevastopol is borne above all by Washington, which supplied these weapons to Ukraine, and by the Kyiv regime, from whose territory this strike was carried out," said the Russian defense ministry.

Footage posted to X over the weekend by OSINT Aggregator, an account that aggregates open-source intelligence, reportedly showed a Russian ammunition warehouse in a Ukrainian strike, although Newsweek was unable to independently verify the video.

On Saturday, Newsweek reported that at least eight people were killed in Russian missile attacks across Ukraine as Kyiv awaits a critical air defense system from its allies.

Dashcam footage from Ukraine shared on X last week appeared to show the obliteration of an ammo truck as it exploded in the contested region of Luhansk.

In the video, a massive fireball is ejected upward into the air as the truck explodes. The vehicle's wreckage is then seen strewn around a smoking crater, as fires burn on the side of the road.
