A violent clash took place outside of a synagogue in Los Angeles on Sunday as pro-Palestinian demonstrators were confronted by pro-Israel counter-demonstrators.

Dozens of pro-Palestinian demonstrators had gathered outside the Adas Torah synagogue in the Pico Robertson neighborhood around 11 am, L.A. Police Officer Tony Im told the Los Angeles Times.

They were soon met by the counter-protesters and the two groups clashed, with shoving and punches being exchanged. The tussles led to one person being arrested, police said.

Details have not been released about the person who was arrested, but the Times reported that they were allegedly carrying a "spiked flag" which is a prohibited item at a protest.

A video shared on X, formerly Twitter, shows the chaotic scene as dozens of people brawl on the street outside of the synagogue.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said in a press release that the violence was "abhorrent."

"I want to be clear that Los Angeles will not be a harbor for antisemitism and violence. Those responsible for either will be found and held accountable," she said.

She said that she has asked the Los Angeles Police Department to provide additional patrols in the area.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated shortly.
