President Joe Biden's job approval rating among Democrats dropped by 11 percentage points in the past month for the worst assessment among his own party since he took office, according to a Gallup poll released on Thursday.

The survey found Biden's current approval rating among Democrats is 75 percent, a double-digit drop from September's 86 percent. The Gallup poll also recorded his overall approval rating at 37 percent, a decline from last month's 41 percent. His overall rating had previously dipped to as low as 37 percent only once before, when it hit the mark in April.

Gallup noted that its poll was conducted from October 2 to October 23, and during this period, Hamas led the deadliest Palestinian militant attack on Israel in history, on October 7. Israel subsequently launched its heaviest-ever airstrikes on Gaza.

As of Wednesday, the Gaza Health Ministry reported that at least 5,791 people have been killed, according to figures cited by the Associated Press, which noted that it could not independently verify the death toll.

According to a Gallup poll released earlier this year, sympathies for the Palestinians have increased among Democrats. The polling organization wrote in its assessment of Biden's latest approval numbers that his pledge of "rock solid and unwavering" support for Israel could have affected his standing among some members of his party.

Though Gallup noted its survey was "not designed to allow for statistically reliable estimates for any subset of the three-week polling period, the daily results strongly suggest that Democrats' approval of Biden fell sharply in the aftermath of the October 7 attacks by Hamas and Biden's promise of full support for Israel on the same day."

Newsweek reached out to the White House via email for comment on Thursday.

Biden scored his highest approval ratings during the first eight months of his presidency, when he received marks in the range of 49 percent to 57 percent. Gallup said his approval rating has fallen below 40 percent four times in the 33 readings it has recorded during his presidency.

His approval rating among independents also decreased slightly in October from September, dropping from 39 percent to the current 35 percent. His rating among Republicans remained unchanged, at 5 percent.

Gallup also noted that the current rating of Biden from Democrats is four percentage points lower than the lowest Republican rating of Donald Trump during his presidency.

Biden's overall job approval rating during his 11th quarter in office, which represents the time span of July 20 through October 19, averaged 40.0 percent. Trump's 11th-quarter rating was 40.7 percent, according to Gallup.
