Marjorie Taylor Greene Brutally Mocked Over Israel Aid Comments

Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia has been mocked on social media over comments she made saying Israel was winning the war against Hamas without the U.S. spending "one single American dollar" on that conflict "yet."

Greene, a MAGA Republican and a Donald Trump loyalist, has long campaigned against further U.S. military aid to Ukraine, which has been fighting off a Russian invasion since late February 2022. To date, Kyiv has received nearly $44 billion in military support from Washington, according to the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, using data updated as of November 3.

Now that a new conflict has broken out in the Middle East following Hamas' unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, Greene has been vocal about her opposition to sending military aid to the long-time U.S. ally.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, published in late October, Greene said that she'd be "voting NO on all funding packages for the Ukraine war (as I have from the beginning) and now the Israel war," adding that the Biden administration should focus instead on the border crisis.

"We have had over 10 MILLION people illegally cross our border since Biden took office and we are over $33 TRILLION dollars in debt with many major problems afflicting Americans," she wrote on X. "The United States government needs to focus on spending American's hard earned tax dollars on our own country and needs to serve the American people NOT the rest of the world."

In a post published on X on Sunday, Greene claimed Israel was "literally dominating in their war with Hamas after being brutally attacked killing thousands of innocent people, and not one single American dollar has been spent on that war yet."

She added: "Just think about that."

The post was soon followed by readers' comments adding context to Greene's message, a function introduced by X under Elon Musk's ownership that aims to help fight misinformation on the platform, called "Community Notes."

"Israel is the largest cumulative recipient of U.S. foreign assistance since World War II," reads a note under Greene's original post. "Successive Administrations, working with Congress, have provided Israel with assistance reflective of robust domestic U.S. support for Israel and its security."

"Since WW2, the U.S. has given Israel ~$260b in aid, much of it went to [the] military," a comment added by a user for context and rated helpful by other users reads. "Plus another $10b for their Iron Dome defense system (which they are currently using at this war). The grants acquire the buying of American tech."

"Correct. Not one single dollar but 300 billion dollars instead," commented another user under Greene's post.

"Dude, we have been sending them money for DECADES to build up their resources for war. What are you talking about?!? We have probably given Israel more money over the years for defense than just about any other country in the world!," a different commenter said.

"Are you tripping? We've given them aid and armaments for decades," wrote writer Stephen King.

Newsweek contacted Greene's spokesperson for comment by email on Monday.

On October 20, President Joe Biden submitted a request to Congress for $106 billion of military and humanitarian aid for both Israel and Ukraine, as well as humanitarian assistance for Gaza. The sum includes $61.4 billion for Ukraine, $14.3 billion for Israel and $9.15 billion for humanitarian assistance for both countries and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

House Republicans have suggested a standalone aid request for Israel tied to funding cuts to the Internal Revenue Service that passed the House but is unlikely to get through the Democrat-controlled Senate.
