Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw scored his first century after returning from injury against Chhattisgarh in the ongoing round of Ranji Trophy fixtures.

The batter made a sublime 159 in Raipur indicating he is on his way to previous best. The young batter injured his knee in August while playing a one-day game for Northamptonshire. He was in fine touch after making 244 and 125 not out before injury struck.

An MRI revealed that Shaw had a grade-II tear of the posterior cruciate ligament.

The 24-year-old has been on the sidelines because of a knee injury and played a competitive game after six months against Bengal where he made a crisp 35.

Shaw has played five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I so far for India since having made his senior team debut back in 2018. But he last appeared for India in a T20I match against Sri Lanka Colombo in three years ago July 2021.

Shaw did have a good last Ranji season. He had scored 595 runs from six matches for Mumbai at an average of 59.50. However, injury curtailed any chances of him being in contention for the Indian side again in any format.

I feel I don’t have to change my game

Though Shaw did pile up mountains of runs in domestic cricket there has been an opinion from experts that he has a few technical issues to resolve after having a few poor outings in overseas conditions .“I feel I don’t have to change my game, but a little smarter than I am. I can’t bat like Pujara sir bats or Pujara sir can’t bat like me. Prithvi Shaw would say about his game during West Zone’s Duleep Trophy semifinal against Central Zone at Alur last year.

“So, what I am trying to do are those things that have brought me here till, for example, the aggressive batting, I don’t like to change that,” added Shaw
