Australian Olympic hockey player Thomas Craig has reportedly been arrested in Paris on suspicion of attempting to purchase cocaine, according to reports in the Australian media. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, following the elimination of both the men’s and women’s Australian hockey teams.

One report said that Craig was apprehended red handed while trying to buy cocaine off the streets.

The identity of the player was not confirmed by the Australian Olympic Committee. But the AOC did issue a statement on Wednesday morning.

“The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has confirmed an Australian hockey team member is in custody after being arrested in Paris on August 6th. No charges have been laid. The AOC is continuing to make enquiries and arrange support for the team member,” a spokesperson said.

The seemingly invincible Australian men’s hockey team were thumped 3-2 by the Indian hockey team in the last pool stage game before Australia were shown the exit door in a 0-2 loss to Netherlands.

Australian media reported that the French authorities launched an investigation into the matter, with the seller also being caught while Craig was trying to buy cocaine from him.
