India at Paris Olympics 2024, Day 6 schedule: Swapnil Kusale in 3P rifle final, massive test for Nikhat Zareen; knockout begins in badminton

There were no medals on Day 5 for India, but there was plenty to cheer. And Day 6, promises to be one of the most significant days of the Games for the Indian contingent, which could make or break medal hopes. It is, without doubt, a day packed with critical clashes across boxing, badminton, and shooting. Athletics action begins too with race walk. The main medal event is in shooting were Swapnil Kusale will be in action in the 50m Rifle 3-Position Men’s Final.

BOXING
Women’s 50kg R16: 2.30 pm
Nikhat Zareen

In probably the most significant bout of her career so far, Nikhat will take on the huge challenge of Chinese favourite Wu Yu, in a battle of world champions (across two weight categories).

After struggling to qualify for most finals in Tokyo, India have had a decent hit-rate in Paris, with Swapnil the latest to reach the medal round. Sift and Anjum will be in 50m 3P qualification round.

HOCKEY:
Men’s Pool B, India vs Belgium: 1.30 pm

In a battle of two teams who have already qualified for the quarterfinals, Harmanpreet Singh and Co will face a litmus test of their level against an elite team before knockouts.

Thursday will determine to a large extent if Indian badminton’s medal run can continue at the Olympics. Sindhu faces a tough test vs He, as do SatChi against Chia-Soh.

India’s archery fortunes in the individual events have been mixed so far. With Dhiraj Bommadevara and Tarundeep Rai already knocked out, Pravin is the last man standing.

QF action gets interesting as Truls Moregard’s massive win against No.1 seed Wang Chuqin has ensured that there will be utmost only Chinese on the men’s singles podium, a rare sight.

Women’s 200m Butterfly Final: 12.00 am IST (Friday)

Summer McIntosh is a name we are going to hear a lot in near future and she will be up against Tatjana Smith in a close battle for the 200m fly title. There are four finals scheduled.
