Pakistan ace-pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi may face disciplinary action for his non-cooperative attitude during the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024 co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA where The Men in Green were out of the competition in the group stage.

Allegedly the 24-year-old did not engage in team discussions ahead of the crucial games at the showpiece event according to Geo News. In addition to his attitude Shaheen also had a heated altercation with coach Mohammad Yousaf during one of the training sessions.

The heated exchange between the duo was due to Yousaf pointing out Shaheen bowling too many no-balls in the practice session. ‘Shaheen said to Mohammad Yousuf to let him do what he was doing, and he (Yousuf) should mind his own business,” a source told Geo News.

However, when asked why the incident was not reported to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) the source would reply “This was nothing more than a routine case of heat-of-the-moment, so the chapter was closed there and then.”

But in the report submitted by the team officials to Chairman Mohsin Naqvi despite Shaheen apologizing the incident was mentioned. “We have to mention all that had happened during the World Cup campaign. It is up to the PCB chairman to decide on the matter,” said an official.

Consequently, Shaheen might miss Pakistan’s upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. However, one of the officials was not in favor of dropping the player but suggested alternative action that could be taken.

“I will rather suggest revoking Shaheen’s NOC for foreign leagues. His demotion from A category contract is also an option available to the PCB. However, the chairman has the final authority to decide on the matter. He has the power to even pardon the fast bowler,” he said.

The series against Bangladesh will start on 21st August in Rawalpindi and the second Test is scheduled to be played in Karachi starting on August 30.
