Among the crucial performances for India on their road to the T20 World Cup win was captain Rohit Sharma’s blistering knock of 92 against Australia in the Super-8.

An innings that saw Rohit take Mitchell Starc to the cleaners for 29 runs in one over. Opening up on the match for the first time, Starc has shared what he made of the Indian skipper.

“I’ve played a lot against him. He had a good tournament, especially in our game. I think he targeted that wind in St. Lucia as well. If you look at the runs from each end, one end went for a lot more than the other. I bowled from that end. I bowled five bad balls and he hit them all for six,” the Aussie pacer said on the Willow Talk Cricket podcast.

Starc on the day ended up conceding 45 runs from his four overs quota. Even though he managed to remove Rohit later in the innings, the dismissal came too late for Australia.

The 92 from Rohit, which was the third highest individual score of the tournament, helped India put together 205 runs, a total Australia fell short of by 24 runs – a defeat that ended their hopes of making to the semifinals of the tournament.

“We thought it was a little bit over par, but it was the best wicket in the World Cup which we played on in terms of runs scored. It wasn’t probably the quickest wicket in the West Indies but definitely the best wicket which we played on. Certainly chaseable. We were on target for a while but a couple of hiccups and some good bowling from them set us back,” Starc added.
