NRL: NZ Warriors prepare to lose hooker Wayde Egan for New South Wales State of Origin duties

NZ Warriors coach Andrew Webster believes New South Wales will only be stronger for having Wayde Egan in their side, even if it means weakening his own team.

Arguably the side's form player this season, the drums continue to beat for the hooker to make his State of Origin debut, while another teammates may soon have to decide whether to also wear blue.

There's plenty of buzz at Warriors HQ around for their hooker's representative future.

"I've said it from the start and I've told Wayde, 'You should be playing Origin'," said Webster, a proud New South Welshman himself, who insists he's not biased.

"We probably stand to lose more by him playing Origin, but we don't want that. We want him to play, we love him, we think he's a great player and he deserves his opportunity."

Has he told new NSW coach Michael Maguire that?

"I haven't had the chance, but if I get the chance, I'll tell him." 

One teammate is perhaps less keen.

"As a Queenslander, I hope they don't pick him," grins Maroons second-rower Kurt Capewell

Egan's not the only Warriors player who may get the call to wear a blue jersey. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck's yet to declare if he'll return to play for New Zealand or line up for the nation of his birth, Samoa.

Newshub understands having Stacey Jones as coach, replacing Maguire, may help the chances of him remaining with the Kiwis.

"I don't know what Roger's doing, but he's represented the Kiwis quite well and hopefully he keeps getting to do that," said former NZ teammate Dallin Watene-Zelezniak.

For now, all they have to worry about is running out for the Warriors against the Dragons on Friday.
