Squash: Kiwi Paul Coll conquers London Classic to claim back-to-back tour titles

Kiwi squash ace Paul Coll has recorded back-to-back PSA World Tour victories with his win in the London Classic on Monday (NZ time).

Coll overcame a hobbled Mostafa Asal in the final, surging home to triumph 11-8 11-13 11-7 8-1 over the Egyptian, who eventually succumbed to injury in the fourth game.

The result comes just a fortnight after Coll pulled off a remarkable comeback to defeat world No. 1 Ali Farag and win the Opstasia Championship, which was also held in London.

Top seed and world No. 2 Coll says he was "stoked" to keep his tour momentum going.

"Very happy to back it up. All the consistency I've been looking for this season," said Coll.

"Today was all about keeping my energy up and the attacks and aggression.

"I really enjoy playing in London. I get a really good home feeling playing here. I've got my coach, family and friends here. The atmosphere was wicked all week.

The final seemed on track to become a rollercoaster contest to the bitter end, until world No. 4 Asal was forced to withdraw.

"I hope Mostafa's okay," said Coll. "We've got some big events coming up at the end of the season.  

"It was a real battle today and he really took it to me and I had to be on my mettle. It was hard, fast squash.  

"Injuries like that happen and I hope it’s not bad. I’m sure we’ll have another battle in a couple of weeks."

Coll will now travel to Hamburg for the German Open on April 8.
