As the season changes, so do our bodies’ nutrition needs. As such, experts urge that it is beneficial to include a variety of not just foods but beverages or drinks to your diet to optimise your health. So, when dietitian Lovneet Batra took to Instagram to share her picks of morning drinks for spring, we decided to understand more.

Batra shared that her top picks for spring season morning drinks are

Coconut water

A perfect hydrator that can help boost your digestion. “Use it before your morning workout to maximise your energy,” shared Batra.

Coconut water is a natural isotonic beverage, rich in electrolytes like potassium, sodium, and magnesium, making it an excellent choice for hydration. “It helps replenish lost fluids and electrolytes, making it ideal for staying hydrated during warmer spring days. Additionally, coconut water contains cytokinins, which have been associated with anti-ageing and anti-cancer effects, promoting overall health and vitality,” said Dr Ekta Singhwal, dietician, Ujala Cygnus Group of Hospitals.

Amla ginger shot

Batra shared that just a 30ml shot of fresh amla juice mixed with 1 tsp ginger juice can help boost your immunity during this change in season. It is also an excellent addition for anyone trying to stabilise high blood sugar.

Ginger is known for its anti-inflammatory and digestive benefits, aiding in digestion and soothing gastrointestinal discomfort, which can be particularly helpful during seasonal transitions. According to Dr Singhwal, amla is a potent source of vitamin C, bolstering the immune system and protecting against seasonal illnesses like colds and allergies. “Together, this potent shot can kickstart your metabolism and fortify your body’s defenses against environmental stressors,” said Dr Singhwal.

Ash gourd juice

A great start to the day if you pull late nights frequently, and have digestive issues such as bloating, acidity, and constipation. Ash gourd is also very cooling and alkaline in nature shared Batra.

Ash gourd juice is also known for its cooling properties, making it an ideal choice for balancing the body’s temperature during the transition to warmer weather. Dr Singhwal said that additionally, its high fibre content can aid in digestion and promote satiety, supporting weight management goals.

Neha Sinha, senior dietician, Manipal Hospital Baner, Pune also added that these drinks provide important nutrients, antioxidants, and hydration, making them valuable additions to one’s morning routine for general health and energy.

If you want to make your morning drink more flavourful, according to Sinha, one should add ginger, lemon juice, and honey to warm water. “Sipping this warm beverage every morning is an effective way to strengthen your digestive system and prevent indigestion, nausea, and heartburn. This drink helps to boost immunity, makes your skin supple, and soothes your throat too,” Sinha said.
