In a world where health is paramount, staying informed about the right fitness and nutrition tips is the key to achieving optimal well-being. With the month of March here, it’s time to reassess our health habits and embrace the correct approaches to enhance our physical and mental health in 2024. Here are 3 strategies you should consider adopting this year for a healthier and happier you, according to celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar.

1. Count carbon footprint and not calories

Diwekar noted that we often overlook the benefits of local, seasonal and traditional goods as we are living in an era of globalisation and social media influence, where products from all over the world are readily available in our markets. Additionally, every influencer — both local and international — can overwhelm our attention with a multitude of choices. In such a scenario, it becomes challenging to discern what truly matters.

The nutritionist, hence, suggests to prioritise on carbon-friendly foods, instead of opting for low-calorie goods, as the former is more likely to be healthier for the environment and you.

2. Start small, start now

Many individuals gain weight as they wait for the perfect moment — an ideal hour — to begin exercising. However, with the world in the palm of our hands, Diwekar said it’s crucial to start now and let go of the idea of later. “Kal ho na ho, par ab apne kabu mein hai (Tomorrow may never come, but you have control over the present moment). Doing a Surya namaskar now is more beneficial than planning to a 108 later,” she added, highlighting that doing a little now is better than doing a lot later.

3. Love and nurture, not deprivation and punishment

Finally, Diwekar pointed out that the celebrate the journey towards health as success lies in sustainability. “Unless you take a sustainable approach, you are signing up for endless resolutions and disappointments year after year,” she said, adding that losing 5 to 10 percent of body weight in a year and not more than that, is perfect for achieving your weight loss goals.
