Throwbacks are the flavour of the season, so what’s better than revisiting some of the revelations made by celebrities about their diets and how they aimed to make them sustainable? When we stumbled upon this 2015 video of Karisma Kapoor discussing her diet with celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, we couldn’t help but notice how small tweaks can make a big difference not only to your goals but also to your energy and stress levels.

Kapoor, in a conversation with Diwekar, talked about losing 25 kilos with just eating fish curry and rice every night for dinner. “I lost 25 kilos eating fish curry with rice every night. When I tell my friends they are surprised that you can eat carbs at night and still lose weight. You have taught me how to eat right, how to eat what I like, eat carbs, and lose weight the correct way,” Kapoor said in the interview posted on Diwekar’s official YouTube page.

She added, “It has become a way of life for me, and I endorse it wherever I go. I tell people to not starve themselves and resort to Nimbu Paani (lemonade) and some leaves, etc. That kind of weight will all come back.”

On some of her favourite snacks, Kapoor mentioned that poha is a great with chillies thrown in, and upma with lots of vegetables is an even healthier option. “I love eating all that. So, you don’t feel deprived. You don’t feel that I can’t eat these Indian yummy snacks. It is not just boiled carrots, cucumbers, etc. You can eat normal household food and still be on your fitness journey.”

She also advocated for fruits like bananas and sapotas (chikoos), which are often perceived as fruits that contribute to weight gain. “Bananas and chikoos are nutritious and give you great energy levels when you are working, or a bit stressed out or have a busy day or taking a flight. It is such a great option as it fills you up, and you will get all your nutrients and energy too!” said Kapoor.

Taking a leaf out of her diet dairy, here are nutrition experts explaining the significance of sticking to simple diet tweaks.

Embracing a diet centered around home-cooked meals like fish and rice for dinner showcases the efficacy of wholesome, balanced eating habits. “While this approach may work for some, individual responses to dietary changes vary,” said Nupuur Patil, nutritionist, Nupuur Patil Fitness.

Patil mentioned that simple diet tweaks, such as increasing vegetable intake, opting for lean protein sources, and limiting processed foods and sugary beverages, can further enhance results.

Snacking healthily can be both enjoyable and fulfilling. “By nourishing your body with these nutrient-rich options, you’ll not only sustain your energy levels but also enhance them,” said Shivani Bajwa, founder, YogaSutra Holistic Living.

Avoid consuming too many fried and oily foods and keep a watch out for artificial sweeteners in sugar-free items, pointed out Dr Vikas Jindal, consultant, dept of gastroenterology, CK Birla Hospital, Delhi. “Carbonated beverages add more air to your stomach, and fructose, which is found in some fruits like pears and apples, which can make you feel bloated,” said Dr Chawla in an earlier interaction with indianexpress.com.
