With the popularity of home remedies growing in the past few years, a vast majority of people are turning to these DIYs to cure ailments. As such, Sadhguru asserts that a combination of Indian gooseberry (amla), soaked overnight with honey and crushed green or black peppercorns, can help build immunity against seasonal illnesses.

In a video snippet, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev shared its recipe.

Ingredients

Amla
Honey
Green pepper or black pepper

Method

*Soak pieces of cut amla in honey overnight along with green or black pepper pepper.

How to take it?

Take three spoons, three times a day every day.

“It works best on an empty stomach. You can see an increase in your immune system. I would say in a matter of 4-8 weeks,” Sadhguru said.

Does this remedy work?

Simrat Bhui, dietitian explained the following benefits of each of the ingredients:

*Amla contains a high concentration of vitamin C, which helps the body recover from illness.

*Black pepper is rich in antioxidants, which help detox the body and prevent certain cancers, said Bhui. “Peppers have anti-inflammatory properties, which helps in wound healing and increasing metabolism.”

*Honey has a therapeutic role in treating many respiratory diseases due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and antioxidant properties, said Bhui.

Dietitian Sonia Narang mentioned that this combination is good for your skin, hair and increases your blood count. To reduce cholesterol levels and improve overall functioning of the heart, take it twice a day — once on an empty stomach in the morning, and the other at night, 30 minutes after dinner for best results,” said Narang.

According to nutritionist Apurva Agarwal, the benefits of amla, green pepper or black pepper, and honey, when combined, work to produce a powerful “immune-supporting elixir”. “Together with the bioavailability-enhancing piperine from black pepper and the vitamin C from amla and green pepper, this potent antioxidant trio strengthens the body’s defenses against oxidative stress and infections,” said Agarwal.

Experts note that the potent combination lowers the risk of immune-related illnesses by lowering chronic inflammation and strengthening the body’s defenses against infections. “The amla may be more easily absorbed by the body and have increased bioavailability after being soaked for the entire night. By strengthening the immune system and supporting the body’s natural defenses, taking this mixture regularly in the morning may improve general health,” said Agarwal.

Combination and consumption of all three can be used as immunity shots to prevent seasonal cough, COPD, and respiratory tract infections, Bhui added. “Regular use increases vitamin levels in the body, hence increasing immunity,” said Bhui.

However, if you have high blood sugar levels or uncontrolled diabetes, it is best to consult your healthcare provider before resorting to any home remedies.
