Home remedies take the crown when it comes to DIY beauty remedies. As such, it is no surprise that Mira Kapoor incorporates many such remedies in her skincare routine. Back from her New Year vacation in Bhutan, Mira shared how the constant travelling led her skin to feel dry. “Good old kaccha doodh face swipe: Cold country, central heating, and overall dryness of the season has made my skin pretty dry…nothing works better than raw milk a couple of times over. Just add some rosewater to mask the smell,” shared Mira on her Instagram Stories.

Does it work?

Dr Shraddha Deshpande, aesthetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgeon, Wockhardt Hospitals Mumbai Central shared that raw milk emerges as a potent ally against dryness. “Rich in essential nutrients such as vitamins A, D, and E, raw milk becomes a powerhouse for skin hydration, infusing parched cells with vital elements that promote suppleness and resilience,” said Dr Deshpande.

Its natural fats form a protective mantle on the skin, sealing in moisture and preventing the unwelcome intrusion of dryness. “The inclusion of lactic acid, a gentle exfoliant, not only refines the skin’s texture but also enhances its ability to absorb and retain moisture,” mentioned Dr Deshpande.

Concurred suggesting that raw milk serves as a gentle and effective moisturiser. “Its high-fat content, including omega-3 fatty acids, helps nourish and hydrate the skin, reducing dryness and preventing flakiness. The lactic acid present in raw milk acts as a mild exfoliant, removing dead skin cells and promoting a smoother complexion,” said Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist and dermato-surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics.

Additionally, raw milk contains vitamins A and D, known for their skin-repairing and rejuvenating properties. “These vitamins contribute to enhanced elasticity and overall skin health, making raw milk an excellent remedy for combating dryness,” said Dr Kapoor.

How to apply?

To integrate raw milk into your skincare ritual, a modest application suffices. “A thin layer, diligently massaged onto cleansed skin, allows the nourishing properties to penetrate and revitalise,” said Dr Deshpande.
