Alia Bhatt is known for her love of natural beauty. She’s often seen rocking a minimal makeup look, including on her wedding day. But did you know there’s a reason behind her preference for simplicity?

In an interview with Allure, Alia revealed she has Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) — a diagnosis that has influenced her approach to beauty, making her less inclined to spend hours in the makeup chair.

For Alia, comfort and efficiency are key. She prefers quick and easy makeup looks that she can do herself. “It needs to be something that you can do very quickly,” she explained. “I have ADD and don’t have interest in investing too much time. Whatever needs to happen needs to happen fast.”

Even on her wedding day, Alia insisted on a shorter makeup session. “On my wedding day, my makeup artist Puneet [B. Saini] was like, ‘Alia, this time you need to give me two hours.’ I told her, ‘You’ve lost it. Especially on my wedding day, I’m not giving you two hours because I want to chill.’ ”

As Dr Madhur Rathi, consultant psychiatrist at Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital in Noida Extension, explains, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) can significantly impact an individual’s ability to remain focused and attentive. This can manifest in a variety of ways, including challenges with staying in one place for extended periods.

Individuals with ADD often experience difficulties with sustained attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, she said. These symptoms can lead to restlessness or a constant need to move, making it difficult to concentrate on tasks that require prolonged focus. The brain’s executive functions, which are essential for organization, prioritization, and planning, may also be impaired in individuals with ADD. This can further complicate the ability to engage in activities that demand patience and persistence, according to Dr Rathi.

For example, someone with ADD may find it challenging to sit through a long lecture or meeting without fidgeting or feeling the urge to get up and move around. They may also struggle to complete tasks that require them to stay focused for extended periods, such as reading a book or writing a paper.

In addition to these challenges, individuals with ADD may also experience difficulty with transitioning from one activity to another. This can be due to their impulsivity or their tendency to become easily distracted. As a result, they may find it difficult to stick to a schedule or complete tasks on time.
