When Taapsee Pannu revealed now-husband Matthias Boe ‘travelled 5-6 hours to see me’ for first date in Dubai

Actor Taapsee Pannu, who married her long-time boyfriend Mathias Boe in March, recently opened up about how she met the former badminton player. During the promotion of her film Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, Taapsee reflected on their brief courtship and nearly decade-long engagement. She revealed that Mathias proposed within a year of their first meeting, and they remained engaged for over nine years before tying the knot.

Recalling their first date, Taapsee shared in a conversation with comedian Raunaq Rajani for Netflix India, “He proposed by saying, ‘I’d like to take you on a date either in Denmark or Dubai since I know these places well.’ I thought, ‘Who’s going to get a Schengen visa for Denmark? Let’s choose Dubai.’ I travelled 3-4 hours, he did 5-6 hours.” Nervous about their first meeting, she admitted that she questioned why Mathias, being a foreigner, would be interested in her, reflecting on a common “inferiority complex” when it comes to relationships with foreigners.

Her friends, concerned about her safety, warned her before she flew to Dubai. Taapsee laughingly recalled, “My friends were worried and even gave me the contact number of someone in Dubai, just in case. But luckily, he turned out to be a nice man, and now, 11 years later, we’re married.”

In a previous interview with Cosmopolitan India, Taapsee described Mathias as different from anyone she had dated before. “There was an immediate sense of security and maturity that I hadn’t experienced before,” she said, adding, “I had dated so many boys before him, and suddenly, I met a guy who didn’t feel like anyone I’d been with before.”

The couple tied the knot in an intimate destination wedding in Udaipur, attended by close family and friends, though they have yet to share official photos from the ceremony. Several videos from their wedding circulated online, giving fans a glimpse of the joyous occasion.
