At 45, Emraan Hashmi defies age; and its his “staple” diet that gets all the credit. Revealing more, the Tiger 3 actor said, “I have the most insipid, boring diet. I don’t vary my diet much. I eat the same meals every day. I tend to go for a cheat meal once in a while, say maybe once a week. But if I am working, it becomes less. It’s the same thing every day for lunch and dinner. I would have the same for breakfast too, if I had one… I tend to skip sometimes. It’s only two meals most days,” said Hashmi.

Just like actor Hrithik Roshan and cricketer Virat Kohli, Hashmi also weighs his food. “All my food is weighed. Protein includes grilled chicken or fish. More chicken these days. Stir-fried vegetables with seasonings and yogurt. That’s the same staple. The chicken and the vegetables are weighed,” Hashmi told Bollywood Bubble.

Does it not get boring? “I have gone beyond bored right now. It does get monotonous. Sometimes, you are not even hungry. But there are perks to it also. You feel really good. When I eat a lot of stuff that is oily and fried, I don’t feel good. Physically, you feel better and optimum with a clean diet. But forget the taste,” stressed Hashmi, adding, “I don’t remember the last time I had rich Punjabi food”.

On being asked what he does not like to eat, the actor said: “I don’t like salads. It is like having medicines. I don’t mind cooked vegetables but salads are something for which I need to force myself.”

Recalling that he used to love eating noodles as a kid, Hashmi shared, “I ate everything when I was a child. My staple was not the most healthy. I used to have a lot of maggi noodles.”

Hashmi further opened up about putting on weight for his film Shanghai with brownies and pizzas. “It was great fun. But another director said that I need to reduce weight for Murder 2. That I had to get back to six-pack abs. That’s when I vowed to never put on that kind of weight. It’s really tough and requires time. One needs to go into a major calorie deficit, which is not healthy for the body. I have become more consistent with my diet now,” said Hashmi.

According to him, cold pizzas, cold butter chicken and cold kali dal, and naan “taste even better the following morning”.

Moreover, Hashmi revealed that he has “not had sugar for the longest time”. “I do eat once in a while but not in my staple diet. Refined sugar is essentially a poison. Chips, sauces have it,” said Hashmi, who has taken to meditation and feels that he is seeing results.

“I can feel that my focus is better with meditation. You can learn the skill sets but every actor has a different approach to a scene. But concentration is as much required,” said Hashmi.

By predominantly focusing on the same type of food, people may experience better digestive health and weight management, said Shruti K Bhardwaj, chief dietician, Zydus Hospitals, Ahmedabad. According to Bhardwaj, the inclusion of lean proteins contributes to muscle development and repair, while whole grains supply sustained energy and essential micronutrients. “Following this regimen consistently can lead to improved metabolism, enhanced immune function, and sustained energy levels throughout the day,” said Bhardwaj.

However, it is important to personalise the plan according to individual health conditions, dietary preferences, and lifestyle factors.
