Author Venita Coelho suffers ‘mini-stroke’, alleges it is linked to ‘Covid vaccine we all took’

Indian author Venita Coelho opened up about suffering ‘a sort of mini stroke’ in August 2023. In a Facebook post, the Dark Tales (2021) writer recounted her experience writing: “So – long post and IMPORTANT post. At the end of it is a series of symptoms that you might want to carefully write down. In August last year, I went up to teach a writing course in the Himalayas. I felt very weirdly tired and just ‘off.’ On the way back down, I looked in the mirror, and the left side of my face had slid down. It was a ‘TIA’ – a Transient Ischemic Attack. A sort of mini-stroke. Doctor speak for ‘we don’t really know what happened, but your brain had a hiccup, possibly a clot’.”

Alleging the reason to be the Covid-19 vaccine, she continued: “Here’s the thing. People across India are having them. It’s linked to the Covid vaccine that we all took. Apparently, long term it begins to affect the clotting of the blood. So doctors are seeing a lot of heart attacks and a lot of strokes in people of all ages. It doesn’t matter which version of the vaccine you took – all those given in India are now suspected of causing thrombosis. (There is now research available on this). And we thought anti-vaxxers were nuts! Sigh.”

During the recovery phase, she again suffered “lots of small TIAs”. “Lots of narrowly avoiding disaster. A whole protocol that was worked out. But apparently, this is now a lifelong condition that I have to be wary of and watch out for. In fact, I just had a small TIA three days ago. Which was the trigger for this post,” said Coelho.

She also noted down some of the “early warning signs.”

Early warning signals

*You start mixing up words. Instead of saying ‘best’, you say ‘beast’. Etc.
*You smell things that others keep telling you aren’t there. For me, it was raw sewage (yep) and stinky armpits. Not just any stinky armpits. Ones that had been dusted with Cuticura powder. A remnant of a memory from my time in crowded Calcutta buses, I think.
*You get weirdly sleepy. You just want to sleep. And you do. For hours. That’s your brain shutting down and trying to figure out the problem.
*You become ‘slow’. Your brain drifts. You have trouble focusing. Nope it isn’t old age.
*You struggle to access memories and words. No it isn’t old age. Don’t write it off to that. It’s a clear red flag.
*You feel ‘off’. Yes. It’s a symptom. Don’t tell yourself you’re imagining it… being lazy… being silly…

Coelho also listed some signs that suggest you are about to have a TIA or are in the middle of one.

*The ‘Blinkies’. My eyelids start blinking rapidly.
*Involuntary movement of your limbs. For me, it is my left hand that starts jerking and spasming.
*A splitting headache. If you have this – get to a hospital. Now.

“And if you wake up and look in the mirror and part of your face has slid – you had one. Still time to rush to a hospital. If you get to a hospital within the first few hours, they can totally reverse the damage. So they say- thank god I didn’t have to learn this the hard way,” said Coelho.

Coelho went on to share her “experiences with allopathy,” which, she said, was “disastrous.” “Every doctor merely suggested that I go onto Ecosprin and stay there for life. They had no other tools to offer at all,” said Coelho.

According to Coelho, Ecosprin thins the blood, and “If you actually have a full-blown stroke that is so bad that you have a clot in the brain and needs surgery – you won’t be able to have it. You have to get Ecosprin out of your system for 6 days to two weeks before you can have any surgical intervention,” said Coelho, adding, “The TIA shut down the right side of my brain. I couldn’t write. Paint. Nothing. I’d sit there and stare at the blank paper”.

Coelho, who has been seeking treatment from an acupuncturist, said that she has been doing okay with “good days and bad days.” She needs to keep her blood thinned “so I drink a minimum of three litres of water a day”. “Figuring out your triggers is important. Figuring out a protocol that helps you avoid them is important. Only then can you go back to a normal life instead of always waiting for disaster to happen,” said the author.

Transient Ischemic Attack: Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment

Consultant neurologist Dr Sudhir Kumar, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, said a transient ischemic attack (TIA) occurs when the blood supply to a part of the brain suddenly blocks, resulting in various neurological symptoms. “These symptoms disappear within less than 24 hours of symptom onset, and in most cases, the symptoms recover in less than one hour,” said Dr Kumar.

Common symptoms of TIA:

– Slurring of speech, poor comprehension
– Facial weakness or asymmetry,
– Weakness of arm or leg,
– Numbness or tingling of arm or leg,
– Unsteadiness while walking,
– Severe headache

According to Dr Kumar, these symptoms often occur suddenly and resolve on their own in less than 24 hours.

“People with TIA are at a higher risk of developing stroke in the future. The risk of stroke is higher within the first 90 days after TIA, and about 20 per cent of people with TIA develop stroke within 90 days of TIA (and half of them develop stroke within two days),” said Dr Kumar.

According to Dr Kumar, common risk factors of TIA include hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity, poor sleep, stress, heart diseases, older age and family history of stroke.

People presenting with TIA should undergo detailed evaluation, including a brain scan and assessment of underlying risk factors for TIA. Dr Kumar shared that Ecosprin is aspirin which helps in preventing TIA or stroke in a person who has already suffered from TIA or stroke earlier. “It is a prescription medicine and should be taken after consulting a doctor,” said Dr Kumar.

Dr Kumar added that treatment is aimed at managing the risk factors and medications to prevent TIA or stroke in the future.

But is there any link to Covid-19 vaccination?

Dr Kumar mentioned that COVID-19 vaccination can “significantly increase the risk of TIA or stroke for up to 3-6 weeks after the vaccination date. “COVID-19 vaccines are thrombogenic, increasing the chance of clot formation. This thrombogenic tendency is seen for up to 6 weeks after vaccination and not after that. Therefore, the risk of TIA or stroke is higher within 6 weeks after COVID-19 vaccination,” said Dr Kumar.
