Debina Bonnerjee often shares snippets from her life on social media — from motherhood to diet and fitness. This time, the mum of two, took her followers through the “nitty gritties” of her hair care routine. “Let me take you through the nitty gritties of hair care. We all do it, but we can always get better right?”

Debina began by sharing that she uses a wooden comb. “It is a must for your hair,” she said, adding that one must brush their hair nicely before applying oil, which she did using an applicator. “Only a little oil is used, and it directly reaches the scalp. It gives some massage too,” shared Debina.

She followed this by using an LED comb. “The red light stimulates the hair follicles, and the blue light reduces inflammation and prevents hair loss,” said Debina.

She then used a “zero-mess home steam” cap to absorb all the oil. “Now is the time to shampoo. For shampoo, use a rubber scrubber to get rid of the oil and dirt from the roots. After washing your hair, apply conditioner. Use a towel wrap and allow the hair to dry,” said Debina.

Taking from her hair care routine, we asked Dr Shareefa Chause, dermatologist and cosmetologist, Shareefa’s Skin Care Clinic about the benefits of Debina‘s A-Z hair care routine.

One cannot ignore the benefits of wooden combs, as they are gentler and cause less hair breakage, said Dr Chause. “It can be beneficial for your hair in various ways such as boosting blood circulation, promoting hair growth, preventing static damage, and adding natural bounce to your hair,” said Dr Chause.

LED combs use low-level light therapy (LLLT) ensuring blood circulation, promoting the distribution essential oils, and maintaining healthy hair.

“The fact that you will use LED combs directly on the hair, makes it important to take necessary precautions to ensure safety. The LED comb should strictly have a low-level wavelength so it doesn’t damage your hair and scalp. The wavelength of the laser plays a crucial role – if it is too low, then its effectiveness could be susceptible, and if it is too high, it may damage the hair,” said Dr Chause, adding that the use of LED combs may not be necessary for one’s hair care routine.

“Use a wooden comb instead of a LED comb as the effectiveness of an LED comb is doubtful,” concluded Dr Chause.
