Nutritionist reveals what makes Alia Bhatt different ‘from anyone else I know’: ‘Knew how much weight to gain during pregnancy…’

Alia Bhatt is known to be extremely dedicated — to her fitness, diet, and work. So, it’s not surprising that she was equally committed during her postpartum journey after giving birth to daughter Raha in November 2022. But not many may know how the actor managed to ace not just her puerperium journey but also her pregnancy.

Detailing this journey, her nutritionist Dr Siddhant Bhargava said: “Alia is at the peak of her career. And when she chose to get pregnant, she was at her peak too. So she was very clear that we were going to do this super-scientifically. She knew she had to shoot for a film right after, and she looked wonderful in it. We knew how much weight we had to gain during pregnancy and lose post-pregnancy. It was calculated but at the same time not at all complex for her.”

Dr Bhargava added that each month, “we kept increasing the intake or decreasing it based on how the baby was doing, and how she was feeling”. “So, we were at an optimal level such that weight loss post-pregnancy did not turn out to be difficult. She has not breezed through it but knew what to expect, and she conquered. It was a known kind of development. That stems from discipline,” said Dr Bhargava.

Hailing Alia Bhatt’s commitment, the expert added: “Imagine going through the hormonal rush, the cravings, the nausea, and still sticking to your diet. That’s what differentiates Alia from anyone else I know. She is the most amazing client I will ever have because she acknowledges what she needs to do. She is cognisant of the rights and wrongs. She is very disciplined and intelligent,” Dr Bhargava told Humans of Bombay.

Taking a cue, let’s understand why new mothers should embrace a balanced diet and fitness routine.

Motherhood is a profound experience, and women must prioritise their well-being alongside caring for their little ones.

Most importantly, women should make sure they are eating a balanced diet post-pregnancy to aid in their healing and to provide their nursing infants with enough nourishment. “From a gynaecological standpoint, post-pregnancy women need to choose balanced, long-term weight loss strategies over quick fixes. This includes eating nutritious foods, drinking plenty of water, and getting regular exercise appropriate for their postpartum period,” said Dr Priyanka Suhag, consultant, dept of obstetrics and gynaecology, CK Birla Hospital (R), Delhi.

Dr Suhag further recommended speaking with a gynaecologist or other healthcare physician before starting any diet or weight loss program. “They can offer specific guidance depending on the person’s health, medical background, and nutritional requirements, ensuring that any dietary adjustments are secure and help in the healing process post-childbirth,” said Dr Suhag.
