Diet and fitness go hand-in-hand, and play an equally important role in overall wellness. This is what actor Shehnaaz Gill also believes in. The Thank You for Coming star recently detailed what all she eats in a day.

“Lots of water throughout the day; about 3-4 litres. I also eat soaked dry fruits,” said Gill, adding that she enjoys poha for breakfast. “I eat granola and curd with poha,” Gill told Melbiflask.

Her lunch consists of homemade dal, vegetables, and ghee with roti. “I eat homemade snacks like roasted makhanas. Dinner is light like soup, khichdi, and dahi,” Gill continued.

As such, let’s understand the benefits of having a balanced, homemade meal.

Experts hail a balanced diet as it is essential for managing weight, health, and fitness goals. “Focus on incorporating plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins into your meals. Limit foods high in refined carbohydrates, added sugars, and unhealthy fats. Instead, choose nutrient-dense foods that provide sustained energy and help control blood sugar levels,” Dr Joozer Rangwala, consultant physician diabetologist, Narayana Hospital, Ahmedabad told indianexpress.com.

*Drink at least 10-12 glasses of water
*Load up on protein.

“It is advised to consult an expert even in the weight loss maintenance phase,” said Dr Rajiv Manek, consultant general laparoscopic, metabolic and bariatric surgery, Wockhardt Hospitals Mira Road.

Another important factor in preventing weight regain is setting realistic and sustainable goals. “Aim for slow and steady progress by making gradual changes that you can adhere to over time,” said Dr Manek.

*Be mindful of emotional eating triggers and find healthier ways to cope with stress or negative emotions. “This could involve seeking support from friends or professionals, practicing mindfulness techniques, or engaging in stress-reducing activities like yoga or meditation,” said Dr Manek.

Experts urge that one should consider working with a registered dietitian to create a personalised meal plan tailored to their dietary needs and preferences. “Also, try to eat regular, evenly spaced meals and snacks throughout the day to keep blood sugar levels stable. Avoid excess eating when food is tasty,” said Dr Manek.
