Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya had their ‘Nischitaardham’ or engagement ceremony this morning in traditional Telugu customs. Both of their outfits were designed by ace Indian designer Manish Malhotra.

The Made In Heaven actor opted for a stunning golden blush Uppada silk sari that featured an elaborate border with intricate golden zari work and delicate embellishments, giving it a regal touch. Complementing her sari, Sobhita wore a matching blouse with similar golden zari detailing.

Her look was accessorised with minimal yet elegant gold jewellery, also from Manish Malhotra’s collection, which included necklaces, bangles, and earrings. She completed her traditional South Indian look with a gajra in her hair, nude makeup, and a classic bindi, radiating elegance and grace.

According to the designer, Sobhita “was keen that this personal moment reflect her roots and pay homage to its rich traditions,” hence she chose to be “draped in a medley of textiles specially sourced from the weaving communities of Andhra Pradesh.”

The hue is inspired by the Kanakambaram, a traditional temple flower worn by Telugu women, and the eternal padmam (lotus). The silhouette, derived from the paintings of iconic Telugu artist Bapu, echoed the classic half-sari style of young South Indian women.

Naga Chaitanya kept his look traditional yet sophisticated, choosing an all-white ensemble. It was an interpretation of the classic pattu pancha, laalchi, and kanduva — a traditional three-piece set worn by the men of Andhra Pradesh. His attire, crafted in ivory brocade and muted gold tussar silk, was complemented by antique gold dori work, honouring the exquisite craftsmanship of Andhra Pradesh.

The couple have been the subject of romantic speculation for some time. The engagement comes after a period of courtship that is speculated to have begun months after Chaitanya’s separation from Samantha Ruth Prabhu in 2021. While the couple has maintained a relatively low profile, their public appearances together fueled rumours of a blossoming romance.

Despite attempts to keep their relationship private, fans were quick to connect the dots when the duo shared seemingly coincidental photos from a jungle safari, in April.
