The Internet is always celebrating one trend or the other, be it dewy skin, glossy lips or rosy cheeks. Once again, eyebrows are under the spotlight, and this time, it’s not for a good cause. This recent trend going viral on TikTok has people recounting their eyebrow-shaping experiences throughout the years- while some cringe at their boxy, or soap-feathered brows, others regret having jumped on the bandwagon instead of understanding their face shape.

Indianexpress.com spoke to makeup artists to understand their take on the viral #eyebrowblindness trend and found out what people should keep in mind when it comes to getting their brows done henceforth.

“Eyebrow blindness is the unawareness or lack of understanding about the importance of properly grooming and maintaining one’s eyebrows. We are not against eyebrow grooming practices such as shaping or microblading. However, it is crucial to be mindful when choosing a technician,” said Sneha Charan, Founder of The Top Knot Makeup Studio, Lucknow.

“Ensure you check the quality of the products used, maintain proper hygiene, and receive a thorough consultation on the appropriate shape of eyebrow and how it suits your face structure,” she said.

“This trend will certainly see a change in the audiences mindset. Content creators will also have to be conscious of what they would like to give to their community. Followers are now going to start, at a very subconscious level, to think if this is really what they need to add to their beauty and then take a call on following it,” shared Preeya, makeup artist and Co-Founder of Tvesate.

According to her, this viral trend is going to ignite that consciousness in people to ensure they don’t have to fall prey to everything that is happening on a digital platform.

Is it safe to follow eyebrow trends?

Eyebrows have changed shapes through every single decade. Thin brows of the 00’s moved to thick defined brows in the 10’s and later moved to feathery brows. Most of these trends have come back from the retro times as well. As long as the person trying the trend is mindful of the change it can give them and is fully cognizant of whether it suits them or not, then it’s absolutely ok to try,” shared Preeya.

The key is to be in full understanding of your own style preference and take guidance from a professional or an expert, she added.

Agreeing with Preeya, Charan shared that when in doubt, seek guidance from a professional makeup artist or dermatologist. They can recommend safe products and techniques and provide advice tailored to your specific
skin type and needs.

“Before trying any trend, do some research to understand its origins, safety considerations, and the experiences of others who have tried it. This can help you make an informed decision and avoid potential pitfalls,” she said.

Charan advised that not every trend will suit everyone. “It’s important to embrace your unique features and preferences. Don’t feel pressured to follow trends just because they are popular; choose what makes you feel comfortable and confident,” she added.
