Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2024 revealed: Only one Indian establishment makes the cut

Post At: Jul 18/2024 08:10PM

Bengaluru’s ZLB23 has emerged as the sole Indian representative on the prestigious Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2024 list, securing the 40th position. This Kyoto-inspired speakeasy, tucked away within The Leela Palace Bengaluru, has also been crowned India’s best bar for the year. The recognition marks a significant milestone for the Indian bar scene, which has been steadily gaining global prominence.

While the previous year saw two Indian bars cutting, the competitive landscape this year resulted in ZLB23 standing alone as the country’s sole entrant. This exclusivity underscores the bar’s exceptional offerings — from their Shiso negroni to their classic old-fashioned. ZLB23’s unique ambiance, coupled with its innovative cocktail menu, has captivated the palates of cocktail enthusiasts worldwide.

The overall rankings were dominated by Hong Kong and Singapore, with Bar Leone and Jigger & Pony claiming the top two spots respectively. The competition has been intense within the Asian bar industry and these leading establishments have been setting high standards.

Beyond the main list, India’s burgeoning cocktail culture was further acknowledged with Yangdup Lama, the visionary behind New Delhi’s Sidecar, being honoured with the Roku Industry Icon Award 2024. His contributions to the Indian bar scene, characterised by a deep-rooted passion for local ingredients and a commitment to fostering a progressive work environment, have undeniably shaped the industry’s trajectory, the event organisers explained.

Additionally, three other Indian bars made it to the extended list (51-100), further solidifying India’s position as a rising star in the global cocktail landscape.

The Bombay Canteen in Mumbai stood at the 59th rank, Lair in New Delhi at 68th, and Home at 96th, also in Delhi.

For those who don’t know, Sidecar was named the best bar in India last year, with The Bombay Canteen and Copitas, along with The Living Room by Masque taking prized spots.

The inclusion of these bars underscores the diversity and creativity of the Indian bar scene, showcasing a range of styles and concepts that are resonating with both domestic and international audiences.
