Indian cricket team welcomed home with cake resembling T20 World Cup trophy, see menu

The Indian men’s cricket team arrived in Delhi yesterday to a roaring reception after clinching the T20 World Cup title in Barbados. Hundreds of fans thronged the Indira Gandhi International Airport, eager to catch a glimpse of their victorious heroes.

The champions, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah, were whisked away to the luxurious ITC Maurya hotel. The iconic venue had transformed into a celebration zone, with the hotel staff pulling out all the stops to create a truly memorable experience for the team.

The festivities kicked off with a welcome ceremony featuring lively dhol beats. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya enthusiastically joined in the dance, setting the tone for a joyous celebration.

The hotel meticulously crafted a bespoke experience for each player. Their rooms featured special handcrafted amenities, personalised photographs, and even delectable chocolate cricket bats and balls. A magnificent three-tier cake, adorned with a chocolate replica of the T20 World Cup trophy, took centre stage, mirroring the colours of the Indian jersey.

A spread of local delicacies awaited the team, each dish echoing the colours of the Indian jersey. Homemade truffles, an assortment of chocolate-coated nuts, and a variety of savoury treats tantalized the taste buds.

Executive Chef Pahoja of ITC Maurya revealed plans for a special breakfast prepared with the finest Indian cuisine. “The cake is in the colour of the Team’s jersey. Its highlight is this trophy, it may look like an actual trophy but this is made out of chocolate…This is our welcome to the winning team…We have arranged the breakfast in the special venue and we will offer them a special breakfast..” the executive chef at ITC Maurya told news agency ANI.

Recognizing the team’s time abroad, the menu would feature their favourite dishes like chole bhature, alongside healthy millet options and indulgent treats, revealed Pahoja.

“ITC Maurya believes in sustainability, so the breakfast has options made with millets. There is healthy food as well as a bit of indulgence,” said the chef.

ITC Maurya was just the first stop on the team’s victory tour. Other events included a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a felicitation ceremony by the BCCI, and a grand open-bus victory parade in Mumbai, which blocked the Marine Drive for hours.
