‘Heeramandi’ actor Sonakshi Sinha reveals her skincare routine: ‘It was zilch’

Sonakshi Sinha, 36, likes to start her mornings at a leisurely pace. “I am not the kind of person who jumps right out of bed. I like coffee, I like to chill, and I like to catch up on my news, my messages, and my emails. Then I like to go get ready, and then I like to step out,” she said.

The Heeramandi actor’s diet and skincare routine also mirror this pace, with an emphasis on quality over quantity. “Having two cups of hot water every morning is something I have started recently. Quite nice. It feels good and is good for your system. I feel that it kicks up my metabolism,” said Sinha, in a conversation with Tweak India’s Morning Chai. She said she loves South Indian cuisine, which is her favourite for breakfast. “Upma, sambar, and green chutney,” she listed.

Having a skincare routine, Sinha admitted, is no less than an achievement, considering she never had one until her 30s. “The fact that I have started doing a skincare routine is what has changed. It was zilch. It was nothing. I am blessed with good skin because of my parents. They have amazing skin. Since I turned 30, it has been more about taking care of your skin, of yourself. I moisturise, and I use an aloe vera gel with jojoba and almond oil mixed in it. So, it is a nice kind of paste that I dab on the face. Less is more,” said Sinha.

Sinha was candid about many of her mother Poonam Sinha’s beauty secrets, too. “My mother has passed on so many organic beauty masks and pastes. She told me you can apply ghee on your face when it gets too dry or coconut oil, and then she makes this amazing past with Multani mitti. She takes a fresh aloe vera leaf and rubs it all over her face. I did it for a few days, but then it got a little messy, so I stopped, but it is really good. It refreshes you,” Sinha said.

What’s her 10-minute skincare routine? “Tinted sunscreen so that it acts like a base, followed up by concealer, then eyeliner, and lipstick,” said the nail art entrepreneur, who can’t leave home without ‘doing her nails’. Sleeping with makeup on is the worst skincare mistake, according to Sinha.

She admitted that she has come back to strength training after many years. “I recently switched to weight training. I have gotten back to it after many years. Initially, before I started my first film, I used to weight train a lot. Then I went into yoga, Pilates,” shared Sonakshi.

Taking from her candid admission of using aloe vera, jojoba oil, and almond oil mix for skin, let us understand how it works.

Moisturising with aloe vera gel, jojoba oil, and almond oil is good for the skin, shared Dr Shareefa Chause, dermatologist and cosmetologist at Shareefa’s Skin Care Clinic. “Aloe vera gel has a cohesive effect on superficial skin cells, which helps to stick them together. This helps in maintaining skin health and also has a soothing effect on the skin,” said Dr Chause.

Jojoba oil has been used for many years for skin and hair. It has emollient properties and is also hydrating and anti-inflammatory. “Almond oil contains alpha-tocopherol and zinc, which help nourish our skin and prevent moisture loss from the skin,” said Dr Chause.

All these ingredients have numerous benefits for the skin, apart from moisturising, she said, “but always remember to check for your skin type before applying anything to the skin and do a patch test behind the ear before application.”
