Fertility specialist calls these foods ‘natural Viagra’; know more

A sedentary lifestyle coupled with unhealthy eating habits not only impacts our fitness levels but also our fertility. But if Dr Varun Shah is to go by, certain fruits, vegetables, and nuts can help improve sexual vitality and act as “natural Viagra“.

For the unversed, Sildenafil, the first internationally approved drug for erectile dysfunction or ED, is sold under the brand name Viagra.

According to Dr Shah, foods like beetroot, watermelon, leafy greens, nuts and seeds, and pomegranate are known for their ability to improve sex drive. “Make sure to include all these in your diet,” suggested Dr Shah.

According to Jinal Patel, dietitian, Zynova Shalby Hospital, nuts, green leafy vegetables, and fruits are beneficial for our overall health, including digestive ability. Patel added that while nitric oxide present in beetroot is said to prevent ED, green leafy vegetables like spinach, fenugreek leaves (methi), and amaranth leaves are good sources of vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin E, iron, zinc, calcium, and potassium. “Including leafy greens regularly in your meals can be highly rewarding and support digestion,” said Patel.

Additionally, nuts and seeds are a powerhouse of protein nutrients, and healthy fats that can give you the feeling of being full throughout the day. “People wanting to do weight loss are suggested to add nuts and seeds to their diet for optimal results,” said Patel.

Do they have a direct relationship with sexual vitality?

Patel stressed that it is important to know that “there is no scientific evidence or research to back up the effectiveness of these foods as natural Viagra”.

“Avoid relying on such hacks for sexual improvements. While they can be a part of a balanced diet and wholesome lifestyle changes, they can’t be considered impactful remedies.
