‘Classic, chic, and simple’: The Archies actor Vedang Raina on his personal style and fashion

Vedang Raina may not have had many choices to choose from but he feels that he is the luckiest man on earth to have got the opportunity to kickstart his career the way it did — “on a big set for a film of this magnitude”, he says referring to The Archies.

But it did not end there as the actor will be seen with Alia Bhatt in his next, titled Jigra. “I am very grateful to be a part of a film like this with an actor as proficient as Alia,” he told indianexpress.com in an interview.

Vedang Raina called his journey in the world of films “pure luck” and also opened up about working with star kids Suhana Khan and Khushi Kapoor. He also spoke about thinking of acting as a career,  being on social media, and much more. Read the edited excerpts below:

You made your debut with Archies (which featured many star kids), how was the experience? Did you ever feel intimidated?

Vedang Raina: Sure, I did feel intimidated because it was my first time on a big set for a film of this magnitude. I tried to mask that nervousness with the confidence I had to bring through my character which Reggie embodies. So, I tried to do that and overall, it was a great experience. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Your next will be with Alia Bhatt — not many newbies get that opportunity. Is it pure luck?

Vedang Raina: I would say it’s pure luck. I keep saying I am the luckiest man on the planet. I feel like it was all destiny because what is happening right now, I can’t explain it and no one can. I am very grateful to be a part of a film like this with an actor as proficient as Alia. Let’s see where life takes me after this.

The two are very different characters — what things do you consider when taking up a role?

Vedang Raina: It’s not like I have had many choices to choose from, but I think I am very grateful that I got an opportunity where I could explore myself as an actor. This new character is very different from Reggie, and I think I have grown as an artist through this film.

When did you know/decide to pursue acting as a career? If not an actor, you would have been?

Vedang Raina: I didn’t decide to pursue acting but it happened to me. It started when I was in my first year of college, around 18 years of age. If I wasn’t an actor, I would have tried to be a singer because I started singing before acting.

Being an actor requires you to maintain a certain kind of physique. As such, what does your fitness routine and diet chart comprise?

Vedang Raina: Diet chart I am not doing too much. I think if I have to prepare for a role that requires me to be in a certain shape then I’ll get on a diet. Otherwise, I am trying to eat healthy, and my workout routine usually includes push-pull legs, two times a week.

Do you miss indulging in anything particular? What do your cheat meals look like?

Vedang Raina: My cheat meals usually include indulging in an ice cream, especially Magnum. I love the Magnum Almond and it is my go-to cheat meal when I feel like indulging in something super decadent.

How important is social media for you? How do you strike a balance between the real and reel?

Vedang Raina: Honestly not the most important thing. I am not very big on social media. I like using it and I enjoy it, but I don’t think my life depends on it. I am quite fine when I am not using it and I think I manage to strike a balance because I am not super fond of constantly recording things on my phone.

What does fashion mean to you?

Vedang Raina: Fashion to me is comfort and it is an expression. I also interpret my personal style and fashion as classic, chic and simple.
