Taylor Swift team says Australian paparazzo had 'threatened to throw' someone in water before alleged wharfside fracas

Taylor Swift's team says an Australian paparazzo had "threatened to throw a female staff member in the water" moments before father Scott Swift was accused of punching him in the face. 

The comments from a spokeswoman from Swift's camp come a day after Ben McDonald alleged he was attacked at Sydney Harbour as he followed the pop star after she concluded her Eras Tour Down Under. 

He claimed "security personnel had pushed umbrellas into his camera and face, and at some point Mr Swift has entered the fray" before he says he was struck in the face. 

The spokeswoman claimed photographers were being "aggressive" as they pursued Swift and her family as she got back into her car. 

"Two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water," she said. 

However, McDonald has dismissed the statement as "utter rubbish", saying he had the altercation on camera and no footage showed the photographers acting "aggressively". 

A statement given to the ABC by New South Wales police on Tuesday confirmed an investigation into the alleged assault was underway.  

"Police have been told a 71-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old man at Neutral Bay Wharf about 2.30am (Tuesday 27 February 2024), before leaving the location," the statement said. 

"The younger man reported the incident and inquiries are now underway by officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command. 

"The man did not require medical treatment." 

Scott Swift has been a regular fixture of The Eras Tour and has been praised for his treatment of fans during the shows, from giving out food to waiting fans or handing out VIP wristbands worth over AU$2000.
